Restore the thread without reconstructing a biography
Cognitive continuity helps resume an investigation, its open questions and changes since the last meaningful checkpoint. It does not require psychological profiling or inferring sensitive traits. Context should be explicit: organization, client, observation focus, task and applicable permissions. If scope cannot be resolved safely, the agent should ask or abstain from retrieval. Similarity between two investigations does not authorize switching clients.
Separate private attention from shared memory
Working notes and reading preferences can be attention context; shared economic evidence needs its own governance. The distinction helps prevent two errors: treating a user instruction as a fact about a company, or allowing a private observation to alter canonical representation. In AXIGNAL, AXIGLAND is governed economic memory; AXENT is the contextual cognitive navigator. This separation is product doctrine, not a claim that every form of persistence is already available in production.
Make retrieval reversible and explanations auditable
An output should indicate which context it used, where it came from, what is current and what is missing. An upstream state change may require reevaluating only dependent conclusions while keeping history visible. An explanation must not invent after the fact why the agent surfaced something. When origin or provenance is missing, preserve UNKNOWN instead of reconstructing a plausible rationale.
Keep permissions tied to each scope
Context resumed in another session should not automatically expand access. Identity, organization and permissions must be resolved before retrieving notes or evidence. A person's private attention may direct research, but it does not change AXIGLAND's shared truth or become a psychological profile. When scope is unclear, asking for precision or abstaining protects both the client and the later explanation.
Conceptual example
Hypothetical example: a consultant resumes an investigation about a client in another session. Before retrieving notes, the system confirms the client and that session's permission; it shows open questions and separates private notes from public evidence already admitted. If it cannot determine which client applies, it does not mix the spaces. This is not a description of a production AXIGNAL feature.
Scope and limits
A long history does not guarantee continuity or accuracy. Retrieval depends on identity, permissions, retention, source quality and temporal state. An agent should not have unrestricted database access or arbitrary SQL authority, and a generated explanation is not a substitute for a real trace. Specific contracts and capabilities vary by system and should be verified before attributing them to AXIGNAL.
