Economic memory is more than a report cache

Saving an answer or a document may avoid an immediate search, but it does not make business knowledge reusable by itself. Economic memory needs to retain what was observed, about whom, when and on which evidence.

In brief

In AXIGNAL, memory is not a cache treated as current merely because it was stored. Observations may survive without FAXT admission, while interpretations can be reassessed when material sources, subjects or conditions change.

Separate a saved artifact from reusable knowledge

A PDF, note or conversational answer preserves content, but not necessarily the connection between subject, claim, source and period. Without that structure, a later inquiry can copy a conclusion outside its context. Economic memory keeps references and epistemic states so a person or system can reconstruct what supports a view and which question made it relevant.

Preserve observations without promoting them automatically

Information can be useful to a future question without becoming canonical truth. An observation may retain its origin, date and conditions even when its evidence is not yet sufficient to admit a FAXT. This information survival supports later review while preserving the distinction between what was seen, what was interpreted and what was admitted.

Let currentness depend on the source

A statement about a capability, address or relationship may no longer describe the present. Memory should preserve the observation time and any date stated by the source instead of treating the newest stored record as universally current. If a source changes or disappears, conclusions that depend on it may need targeted reassessment rather than a blanket refresh.

Reuse with permission, provenance and scope

A public observation may help several Observation Focuses when rights, privacy and policy permit. Reuse does not authorize sharing a subscriber’s private context or counting the same source twice as independent corroboration. A new Focus receives the evidence with its provenance; economic interpretations are recalculated for that Focus’s question and context.

Conceptual example

Hypothetical: AXIGNAL memory retains a public statement that a company installed a production line, along with its source and observation date. Months later, a team asks about a related capability. It can reuse the observation, check currentness and leave present operating status unknown if no newer evidence is available.

Scope and limits

Economic memory does not guarantee information is complete, current or true merely because it persists. Reuse depends on rights, provenance, subject and conditions. AXIGNAL does not present old answers as current facts or automatically convert every stored observation into a FAXT or canonical relationship.
