A single snapshot serves a specific purpose
For a narrow question—such as identifying what a company says about one product—a one-off search may be enough. Its limit is that it does not necessarily preserve governed economic state or return on its own when the context changes. The work and judgment needed to compare future findings remain with the researcher.
Persistence means memory with reassessment
An Observation Focus assigns continuing attention to an Organization. The intent is to connect evidence that remains current, record observable variation and enable reassessment. Persistence does not mean instant updates or complete coverage: each change depends on an accessible source, comparable conditions and evidence meeting the relevant rules.
Time makes questions possible that a snapshot cannot answer
What appeared after the first observation? What disappeared from a source? Did the support for a relationship change? These are temporal questions. The start date matters too: observation begun now cannot reliably reconstruct everything that happened earlier. Keeping that limit visible prevents an incomplete chronology from becoming an invented history.
When each approach makes sense
A one-off query fits an immediate, bounded decision. Persistent observation may fit when an Organization matters over time and useful public evidence can be observed under governed conditions. There is no need to keep a focus on every company: the choice directs attention; it does not determine who AXIGNAL considers true or important.
Conceptual example
An analyst can review a company today to prepare for a meeting and stop there. If they also need to understand how its public context evolves over the coming months, they could start an Observation Focus and compare changes AXIGNAL is able to observe under identifiable conditions.
Scope and limits
Persistence does not guarantee real-time alerts, a specific refresh rate or public evidence for every business change. Availability depends on the focus and admitted sources; comparison may be inconclusive if the instrument or conditions changed. Observation started today cannot recover an unobserved past.
